Maldivian, also known by its endonym Dhivehi or Divehi (Dhivehi: ދިވެހި, Dhivehi pronunciation: [d̪iˈʋehi]), is an Indo-Aryan language spoken in the South Asian island country of the Maldives and on Minicoy Island, Lakshadweep, union territory of India.
Maldivian language has notable dialects. The standard dialect is that of capital city, Malé. The greatest dialectal variation is from the southern atolls Huvadu, Addu and Fuvahmulah of Maldives. Each of those atolls has its own dialect closely related to each other but very different from the northern atolls. The southern atoll dialects are so distinct that those only speaking northern dialect cannot understand them.
The ethnic endonym for the language, Divehi, is occasionally found in English as Dhivehi (spelled according to the locally used Malé Latin for romanization of the Maldivian language), which is the official spelling as well as the common usage in the Maldives. Maldivian is written in Thaana script.
Maldivian is a descendant of Elu Prakrit and is closely related to Sinhalese, but not mutually intelligible with it. Many languages have influenced the development of Maldivian through the ages. They include Arabic, French, Persian, Portuguese, Hindustani, and English. The English words atoll (a ring of coral islands or reefs) and dhoni (a vessel for inter-atoll navigation) are anglicised forms of the Maldivian words atoḷu and dōni.

Tuna spaghetti / Maldivian style spaghetti / easy spaghetti recipe / spaghetti by zesty.mv
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ingredients for cooking spaghetti:
- 8 cups water
- 2 tbsp cooking oil
- 1 1/2 tbsp salt
- 1/2 pkt spaghetti (250g)
Direction for cooking spaghetti:
- Bring water to boil on medium heat. Once heated, add salt, cooking oil and add spaghetti. Give a quick stir to avoid sticking together.
- Put the lid on and cook 10-15 minutes. Cooking time varies depending on the thickness of your Spaghetti. Do check occasionally. When there is no more white center in the middle, it is cooked.
- Once cooked, strain the spaghetti into a bowl. Reserve around 2 cups of Spaghetti cooked water to add to the spaghetti sauce.
Ingredients for spaghetti sauce:
- 3 tbsp cooking oil
- 1 nos. onion (large)
- 6 nos garlic cloves
- 1/2 of scotch bonnet chilli (according to your taste)
- 20 nos curry leaves
- 6 dried red chillies
- 1/4 tsp grated ginger
- Salt to taste (2 tsp)
- 1 pkt dried tuna flakes (25g)
- 1 can canned tuna chunks (180g)
- 1 pkt tomato paste (70g)
- 1/2 tbsp dried oregano
- 1/4 tsp black pepper powder
Directions:
- Finely dice the onions. Finely chop the garlic and slice the chilli.
- On medium heat, add cooking oil, onion, garlic, fresh chilli, curry leaves, dried red chillies (cut into half- remove seeds if you don't like seeds), grated ginger, salt to taste (1 1/2 tsp).
- cook till onions are lightly browned. Stir to avoid onions from burning. Can reduce the heat till it is lightly browned.
- Break tuna flakes into little pieces a bit. Not too much. Add it to the lightly browned onions and mix for 1-2 minutes on medium heat.
- Add canned tuna chunks and cook 2-3 minutes. Stir occasionally.
- Add tomato paste, oregano, black pepper powder and cook 2-3 minutes.
- Add the reserved spaghetti cooked water and cook 3-4 minutes on low heat, stiring occasionally.
- Check if salt is according to your desired taste. I added 1/2 tsp more salt at this stage.
- Add cooked spaghetti and combine well for 2-3 minutes. Serve hot.
- Enjoy! Thank you for watching. Don't forget to subscribe to see all the upcoming new videos every week ♥️ .
