On the occasion of Mother’s Day, this short depiction is about a son who regrets the disrespectful ignorance he showed to his mother the moment she passed away. He forgets the sacrifices of countless days and nights his parents were at his service to build him a future of his own.
A mother’s love must be appreciated and acknowledged everyday before it’s too late.

For small-inhabited islands such as Naifaru, the simplest initiative paves many pathways towards new developments and subsequent opportunities for the locals who are always eager and enthusiastic to participate actively to improve their livelihood and the local economy. The Juvenile Aquarium project by Naifaru Juvenlie, for the conservation of marine biodiversity and awareness for environmental issues, is well integrated with the Naifaru local community, and particularly active with Naifaru schools including participation from schools across the entire Lhaviyani Atoll. These activities were carried out as part of the students' Nature Clubs with a series of awareness programs and was organised within the academic year calendar. The objects of this project focused mainly on developing community awareness about environmental issues such as waste management, protecting endangered species and coral rehabilitation.
The project, funded by the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Program (GEF SGP) and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has proved sustainable developments for the local community of Naifaru and other islands in Lhaviyani Atoll. The future growth of these developments promises expansions of the Marine Conservation Center to become an educative and environment conscious institutional body that contributes mutually benefiting outcomes for both the environment and the community that inhabits it.

Part 1. Dhuvaafaru: the long wait is over
First of a series of 7 videos retracing the relocation of an entire community of nearly 4000 people, that lost their island home after the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami.
The Red Cross Red Crescent helped them by building a new community on the deserted island of Dhuvaafaru.
When the tsunami swept across the Maldives on 26 December 2004 the island of Kandholhudhoo was rendered uninhabitable, leaving more than 3,600 people homeless.
Following an extensive study the Maldives National Disaster Management Centre identified the uninhabited island of Dhuvaafaru as the most suitable settlement location due to its topographical characteristics such as its comparatively high elevation, its size and its reef - essential for better protection against tidal surges.
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) signed an agreement with the Government of Maldives in May 2005 to build a new community on Dhuvaafaru Island. The IFRC has funded construction of 562 houses as well as other community infrastructure such as an administrative building, a pre-school, primary school and secondary school, an auditorium, water supply and sewage systems, a sports complex, roads, and a power supply system backed up with solar energy.
Building this community on a remote island in the Indian Ocean posed an immense logistical challenge but on the 14th December the entire population of Kandholhudhoo were resettled in their new homes on Dhuvaafaru.

Part 2. Kandholhudhoo: the tsunami tragedy
At 9.23 on the morning of 26 December 2004, the tsunami swept across Maldives flooding all but nine islands of the archipelago. When the floodwaters receded and emergency operations got underway, it was confirmed that 82 people died, 26 went missing, 1,313 were injured, and over 15,000 lost their homes. One of the most affected islands was Kandholhudhoo, in Raa Atoll; the deadly waves had washed the entire island, extensively damaging houses and buildings, and contaminating groundwater. The more than 3,600 inhabitants of Kandholhudhoo were left homeless and had to evacuate.
